A Case for Defunding the TSA

Why are taxpayers financing the security costs for the airline industry? Many industries are struggling, but the government doesn’t cover their security costs. It still amazes me that The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) confiscates around $7 billion annually from taxpayers. Why? Founder Ben Franklin said it best, “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Our Founders were brilliant. Many politicians today are not.

Why are Americans allowing our government to blatantly ignore the U.S. Constitution? Why are Americans allowing the federal government to violate the Fourth Amendment (prohibits illegal search & seizures)? Where’s the outrage from the American people?

Kentucky’s U.S. Senator Rand Paul was recently detained by the TSA. The Constitution clearly states in Article 1, Section 6 that Senators or Representatives “be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.” I was shocked that the Constitution doesn’t say, “Unless you’re in the Nashville Airport.” Continue reading
